A show well timed

While it had been my intention to keep these in relative order, I am giving up on that plan. In 2014 we produced Hello! My Baby with Cheri Steinkellner for the second time.  It is rare for us to repeat shows so close together, but we had work shopped the script in house with Cheri and decided to take it to the International Thespian Festival the following year. With some script and song changes and a completely different set, we performed the show the same day the SCOTUS made its announcement upholding marriage equality. At the end of the show when Johnny asks "What the hell, a fella and a fella?", Marie's line "This is America, love is for everybody!" completely brought the house down. The street, still in the midst of detail painting

The Ballroom, we opted for painted shrub cut outs in the end. This was obviously not a dress rehearsal.

I am attempting to catch up with my personal page here. We do a lot of shows in a year, and since I have been happily designing for KUSD Theater Arts at Bradford HS for 15 years, I tend not to think about updating. I do post regularly to our FaceBook page KUSD Theater Arts on FaceBook and our KUSD Theater Arts blog, but my personal portfolio never seems to get the same love. This is a shot of bows for Dessa Rose in 2012. We toured this show for almost an entire school year, taking a shortened version to area festivals (with the thrust stage) and the full version to district schools. The message is so powerful and the music stunning. If you have the chance, see it live. It will make you cry and give you hope for the future.

A few photos from the previous season, 2010-2011. The season included Ragtime, Camp Rock, Ten Minute Plays, Shaowbox, Aladdin, Metamorphosis, and Avenue Q. Not pictured, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown and Last Five Years.

Light in the Piazza, set up alley style on the main stage at Bradford. We had a good time painting the floor. Doesn't everyone like to spatter?
Again, I only have a few shots of Guys and Dolls. I should prevail upon Kristen to share a few? This was our first big show of the year this year, built mostly by the underclassmen in the first month and a half of school. I think they did a pretty good job. These are unfinished shots, if I find better, I will post them.
A few shots from Tarzan, soon to preform at the International Thespian Festival. Figuring nout how to do Tarzan, without "flying" (at Disney's request) was interesting and more than a little nerve wracking. Thanks to the Actor's Gymnasium for Training the dancers and Hall Associates Flying effects for teaching us how to rig!
Annie was our inaugural musical at ITHS. Sadly, I have very few pictures. I'll add more as I find them. The show went very well and we where able to identify a lot of the challenges in the new space.
